The WHY of Orphan care: Depraved Indifference

Some people wonder why we should help orphans. Some don't think it will make a difference; some don't see it as their problem. Most people care, but never act.
Everyone needs to see this video by Eric Ludy. He's captured the heart of God for orphans so brilliantly and passionately in this video - but have tissues handy!

Welcome!

Welcome to This Little Light!
God has gifted me a passion for the innocents, the vulnerable - for orphans. One of the ways I intend to use this passion (for what good is a passion if it stays only with you?) is to yell from the hilltops, beg all who will listen, open the eyes of those who don't see: There are an estimated 147 million orphans in the world.
Go ahead and try to wrap your mind around that number. 147,000,000 children in the world with no mama, no one to rock them to sleep, no one to hold them when they're hurting, no one. There are children suffering from malnutrition, kids with rashes because they don't get bathed, babies with flat heads from laying in cribs day after day. When they "age out" of the orphanages, many become prostitutes, gang members, criminals, or die at a young age because they have NO WHERE to go.
This is completely unacceptable.

It seems a little daunting, doesn't it?
"There are so many orphans in the world, and I am just one person," you might say. "What could I possibly do?"
I am so glad you asked! One thing - one wonderful, beautiful thing - that you can do is adopt! Give a family to a child in desperate need of one. Not all people, however, are in a position to adopt. But there is still so much you can do! You can give time, money, or resources; you can also advocate for children in need! Through this blog, I hope to help you help orphans. I will also be advocating for specific children, projects, and needs. I will post links to resources, projects, and ministries so you can learn more and find your fit. Have a look around and see what YOU can do to help!

In Christ,
Rachel
